A Very Midwestern Year Series
A Very Midwestern Year started on a night when I had a migraine and found myself thinking, “People outside this region wouldn’t understand half the things we deal with here.” That thought stuck with me — and so did the conversation I’d had earlier that day. Before I knew it, this series became a love letter to the Midwest, to the strange little traditions we don’t question, and to the kind of families who show love through food, sarcasm, and showing up even when it’s messy.
Every couple in this series carries pieces of my husband and me. Every book includes moments pulled straight from my real life — the animals are ones we actually had, I really did eat all the food one night, Nora’s doomsday baskets are absolutely a thing I do, Laura's complicated family dynamics and weekly therapy sessions, Tessa’s longing to be seen, and Jane’s unapologetic Scorpio energy all come from places inside me.
These stories are cozy, chaotic, heartfelt, and deeply Midwestern. They’re about love, belonging, and the kind of community that drives you a little wild but never lets you go. Because here in North Dakota, we’ll apologize when you bump into us, we’ll ask to “sneak right by ya there,” and you’ll never quite know what we actually mean when you ask a yes/no question. Our answers come out as “yeah, no, yeah” or “no, yeah, no”, and somehow everyone here understands exactly what that means.
It’s just who we are.
Beau:
I got this job on a whim and prayer. I needed a fresh start and where else to start fresh then in the middle of nowhere? I walked into the Scattercrumb one day and there she was, the woman I was going to marry. Now, I am judging hotdish competitions, going to family functions, and learning how to do 30 minute goodbyes.
Nora:
He walked in and my whole world shifted. Now, I am flirting with him everyday, teaching him how to live in the North, and all while trying to survive emotional pinochle season. With all the differences between the two of us, will he still choose me when all is said and done?
A Very Merry Midwestern Holiday is a cozy cheeky spicy romcom novella about found family regional quirks and falling in love; one hotdish at a time. This is book 1 of A Very Midwestern Year: Series
Tropes include

I’ve loved Laura Gustafson since the moment I saw her twelve years ago. I’ve waited, I’ve been patient, and when she finally let me in on New Year’s Eve, I thought we were starting our forever. Instead, she ran. Again. I know what we have is real—but how do I prove I’m not like the people who hurt her before?
Levi walked into the bar and settled into my heart before I even realized it was happening. But loving someone that deeply? Terrifying. I’ve been burned enough times to know better than to trust forever. So when I finally gave in on New Year’s Eve, I panicked by morning and pushed him away.
Now we’re trying again—slowly, carefully, with all the messy feelings I’ve spent years avoiding. And this time, there’s no running. Because nine months from now, ready or not, Levi and I are going to be connected for the rest of our lives.
